Pakistan‘s Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Friday that security forces thwarted a terrorist plan to attack the parliament in Islamabad by arresting a would-be suicide bomber.
Briefing reporters about the incident Malik said police recovered a suicide jacket from a remote cave in the Margalla Hills and terrorists had intended to use it to target the Parliament. He said the would-be suicide bomber was arrested at a checkpoint at Barha Kahu on the outskirts of Islamabad.
Malik indicated that the Taleban based in the Waziristan Tribal Region were linked to the terrorist plot. He declined however to make any statements regarding Tehreek-e-Taleban Pakistan (TTP) leader Hakimullah Mehsud‘s alleged death in a drone strike on Thursday.
