Organized Crime: Triads under pressure

A specialist in infiltration operations, Andy Tsang Wai-hung has cracked down heavily on Hong Kong’s criminal organisations since becoming head of the Hong Kong Police Force in January. Last month, more than 10,000 suspected members of criminal gangs were arrested in Hong Kong, Macao and in the Pearl River delta region. The operation, dubbed Thunderbolt 11, was organised by Ng Wai-hon, the current chief of the police’s Organised Crime and Triad Bureau in conjunction with the Public Security (Gonganbu) office in Guangzhou, headed by Liang Weifa. According to our sources, the infamous Wo Shing Wo triad has suffered some of the biggest losses in the operation, along with the Sun Yee On triad, which has links to the Chinese Communist Party.
