Iran/Iraq: 22 Kurdish rebels killed in Iranian military operation

The Iranian State Television reported on Monday that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corp (IRGC) had killed 22 members of the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) terrorist group during a security operation conducted in the Sardasht Mountains, along the Iraqiborder.

IRGC spokesman Colonel Hamid Ahmadi later stated that “security operation will last till the elimination of all counter-revolution and terrorist elements”.

To recall, Iranian authorities have recently deployed 5,000 soldiers along the Iraqi border. PJAK indeed regularly engages in armed clashes withIranian security forces along the country’s western borders with Iraq‘s semi-autonomous Kurdistanregion.
