Turkey/Terrorism: Two injured in bomb explosion in southern port city of Mersin

The state-run Anatolia news agency reported on Tuesday that at least two people were injured when a bomb exploded near a police station in the southern Mediterranean port city of Mersin. According to police sources, one of the men lost his hand in the explosion as police is investigation whether the homemade bomb exploded prematurely. It is unclear whether the men are involved in the attack, although police sources reported that they were intending to hide the explosive prior to detonate it.

Mersin has a large Kurdish presence and it is highly likely that the explosion is the work of the Kurdish terrorist group PKK (Kurdistan Worker’s Party) as the city has been the target of PKK attacks before.
