United Kingdom/Terrorism: Nine charged with terrorism plot against U.S. embassy

Nine of the twelve terror suspects arrested on December 20 in three raids conducted in the cities of CardiffStoke-on-Trent and London were charged by the City of Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday on “engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism with the intention of either committing acts of terrorism, or assisting another to commit such acts”.

The suspects were jailed until their next court appearance set for January 14.

According to separate reports in the media, the principal potential targets for the foiled plot included the U.S. Embassy in London and the London Stock Exchange or the House of Parliament.

Although no information was disclosed on their identities, five of the suspects are of Bangladeshi origin.
