The Somali Government said that their forces managed to seize the town of Bulo Hawo on the border with Kenya andEthiopia from the control of the Islamist group al-Shabaab this weekend.
Reportedly, the military operation which commenced this weekend resulted in the death of 11 al-Shabaab fighters and one government soldier. Thousands of people have also been reported to have fled the violence into Kenya.
The latest seizure is a significant victory for the weak UN-backed government against the al-Qaeda-linked terrorists. The government forces has, with the help African Union peacekeepers, succeeded to seize several parts of the capitalMogadishu, previously held by al-Shabaab, this month.
