Police Officials stated that Greece’s Civil Protection Minister escaped injury after a bomb went off next to his office on Thursday, killing a close Ministerial Associate.
According to police, the bomb, a booby-trapped package disguised as a gift, exploded in the seventh-floor office of the MinisterMichalis Chrysohoidis, causing extensive damage inside of the ministry building.
Reportedly, the blast went off as police officer, identified as Giorgos Vassilakis opened a parcel which killed him instantaneously.
No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing, but suspicion fell on radical Greek terrorist groups opposed to government’s economic and social policies.
Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou termed the bombing a terrorist attack.
