Kyrgyzstan/Civil unrest: at least 118 dead in ethnic clashes

At least 118 people have been killed and over 1,400 injured during three days of mass clashes in the southern Kyrgyz cities of Osh andJalalabad, Kyrgyz Health Ministry reported on Monday.

Reportedly, late on Thursday a conflict between ethnic Kyrgyz and Uzbeks at a local casino lead to gun battles between large groups of young men.

Since Friday the government imposed a state of emergency in Osh and Jalalabad districts in attempts to restore order.

It has been reported on Sunday  that Russia has sent at least 150 paratroopers to Kyrgyzstan to protect personnel and equipment at Russia’s Kant air base in Kyrgyzstan’s north.
