Kyrgyzstan/Civil unrest: clashes in southern city of Jalalabad, 20 injured

At least 20 people have been wounded on Friday when thousands of interim government supporters attempted to retake regional government buildings in the southern Kyrgyz city of Jalalabad, occupied by backers of ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, media reported.

Reportedly, earlier on Thursday hundreds of supporters of Bakiyev, who has been forced into exile in Belarus, seized government buildings in the southern cities of Osh, Batken and Jalalabad. Meanwhile, later  supporters of Kyrgyzstan’s interim government have regained control of the local government building in Osh.

The interim government, headed by Roza Otunbayeva said ousted leader Kurmanbek Bakiyev was behind the seizure of government buildings in all three southern provinces and announced the arrest of a Bakiyev ally.
