Bomb blast outside Athens’ prison, two injured

A powerful bomb has exploded outside Korydallos prison in the west of Greek capital Athens on Thursday, leaving two people wounded and causing extensive damage to nearby homes and shops, security officials and media reported.According to security officials, the bomb, hidden inside a garbage container alongside a wall at the Korydallos prison contained about 12kg of explosives was detonated by a timer mechanism. Reportedly, an anonymous caller had warned a Greek TV station and a newspaper that a bomb would blow up outside the prison within minutes.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, but police suspected members of the country’s leading extremist group Revolutionary Struggle behind the attack. Last month police captured six suspected members of the group.
