24 dead in Somalia Parliament bombing

Exchange of artillery fire between Somali government forces and Al-Shabaab fighters left at least 24 people killed and more than 60 others wounded in Somalia’s capitalMogadishu on Sunday, media reported.

The attack came as parliament sessions resumed on Sunday morning. A government security official stated that Al-Shabaab fighters tried to attack the parliament building but the government troops defeated them and many of their fighters were killed in the clashes.

According to medical authorities, most of the deaths took place in and around the main Bakara Market, as government forces backed by African Union (AU) troops retaliated to the terrorists who fired from the market toward the parliament building.
