Two police officers were injured and two Muslims arrested on Thursday after clashes between the police and Muslim tourists who wanted to pray inside in Roman Catholic Cathedral in Cordoba. The Cathedral had been a mosque before it was rebuild in the 13th century.
According to National Police spokeswoman Rosa Ortiz, tension erupted when a group of 120 Muslim tourists fromAustria entered the mosque and started praying. They started arguing and clashing with the guards when they were asked to stop their prayer. Police reached the site and controlled the situation.
Bishop of Cordoba cathedral Asenjo, stated that Muslim prayers would not be allowed as it would create confusion and lead to religious indifference.
