Two Eritrean militant groups, the Red Sea Afar Democratic Organization (RSADO) and the Eritrean National Salvation Front (ENSF), released a joint statement on Thursday, claiming they have killed 11 security personnel during a coordinated raid on military camps in the country’s south. The statement further said at least 20 soldiers were injured in the attack while the rebels took control of the camps for a brief period time and seized weapons and military intelligence. “The camps have been completely destroyed and the Eritrean soldiers based at these camps are in disarray.”
The validity of the claim could not be confirmed so far. Rebels regularly produce similar statements; however it is impossible to verify the information independently due to travel restrictions in the country.
