Terrorist leader reportedly killed in Ingushetia

Russian news agencies reported on Thursday that Alexander Tikhomirov, a senior terrorist ideologist in Northern Caucasus has been gunned down by Russian security forces in a special operation on Tuesday in Ingushetia republic.

State-run Interfax and RIA NOVOSTI agencies said Tikhomirov, also known as Said Buryatsky, was killed on Tuesday in a gun battle in Ekazhevo village in the suburbs of Nazran city. “Tikhomirov was among six rebels killed on Tuesday in Nazran,” RIA NOVOSTI quoted an official as saying. “His body was identified on Wednesday”.

However, there was no official confirmation about the death of Tikhomirov so far. According to officials Tikhomirov was one of the key ideologists among the terrorist groups in Russia’s volatile south. He masterminded the suicide bomb blast that killed at least 20 people and injured 138 at a police building in Ingushetia last August.
