Four people, including a soldier, were killed in a gun battle between Niger Delta oil militants and military personnel on Tuesday in the Yenagoa council of Bayelsa State. According to military sources, the fighting erupted after soldiers tried to restore peace between militants and an ethnic group who were fighting over territorial issues. It has been reported that the soldiers were consecutively attack by both rebels and the ethnic group.
Meanwhile, an online statement published by the Peoples Patriotic Revolutionary Force (PPRF) claimed to have successfully bombed the Shell-operated Kokori pumping station at Erhoike Community in the Ethiope East Local Government Area yesterday morning. The statement indicated that with the Operation KOKOMA ODIDIMADI, they are launching a new series of attacks in the Niger Delta and beyond. “We demand Shell Petroleum Development Company and all multi-national companies to vacate the Niger Delta region with immediate effect,” added the statement.
