Mexican army captures Juarez Cartel Leader’s brother

The Mexican Defence Secretariat stated on Monday that government troops captured Roberto Sanchez Arras, third in command of theJuarez drug cartel, on Thursday in the violence-plagued state of Chihuahua.

Officials said Roberto Sanchez Arras, brother of Pedro Sanchez Arras, alias ‘El Tigre’, was arrested in the village of Villa Ahumada by a patrol of the 20th Motorized Calvary Regiment while he was driving an SUV without tags. The arrest followed an investigation, which combined gathered intelligence and complaints of local inhabitants.

Police also seized three rifles, four handguns, a fragmentation grenade, 22 ammunition clips, nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition of different calibres, tactical equipment, uniforms from different police agencies and bullet-proof vests.

Pedro Sanchez Arras was arrested on May 13, 2008 in Hidalgo de Parral, a city in Chihuahua. Over the last months, Mexican security forces have scored several high-profile victories against drug cartels, including the slaying of kingpin Arturo Beltran Leyva in December, and the arrest of the notorious hit man Teodoro Garcia Simental, known as ‘El Teo‘, in January.
