Armed encounters between Azerbaijani troops and Armenian security forces left three Azerbaijani soldiers killed near the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region on Thursday.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry stated that Armenian armed forces fired at multiple Azerbaijani positions on February 18 near the Tapqaraqoyunlu village of the Geranboy region, the villages of Gizil Oba and Gapanly of the Terter region and the villages of Yusifjanli and Javashirli of the Agdam region.
The ministry confirmed the death of three soldiers and informed that another soldier was wounded during the exchange of fire. “This bloody event once again proved the senselessness of continuing negotiations with Armenia, continuation of the mission of international mediators casting doubt on hopes the release of the territories occupied by Armenia through negotiations,” the statement said.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry accused Armenia for violating the ceasefire and said the Armenian side also suffered casualties during the clashes. However, the Nagorno-Karabakh defence ministry denied the claim.
